What Teeth Are Considered Cosmetic?
By Dr. Eastwood – Summerbrook Dental & Implants, Fort Worth, TX
In cosmetic dentistry, it’s not so much about which teeth are considered cosmetic — it’s about what we’re doing to those teeth and why. Any tooth can be treated cosmetically if the goal is to improve its appearance, not just fix a problem like pain or decay.
That said, cosmetic treatments are most commonly focused on the front teeth — the ones you see when you smile, talk, or laugh. These include:
-
Top front six to eight teeth
-
Bottom front teeth, if visible when you smile
-
Any tooth that shows when you talk or grin wide
These teeth are often the focus for procedures like veneers, bonding, whitening, or clear aligners, because they have the biggest impact on how your smile looks. If a tooth is discolored, chipped, uneven, gapped, or too small, cosmetic treatment can help improve its shape, color, and alignment.
Even back teeth (molars and premolars) can be treated cosmetically. For example, if you want your fillings or crowns to be tooth-colored instead of silver, that’s a cosmetic choice. Some patients choose cosmetic treatment for back teeth if they show a lot when they smile or laugh.
At Summerbrook Dental & Implants, we take a custom approach to every smile. I’ve completed advanced training in cosmetic procedures so we can design a plan that works for your goals, whether that’s fixing one front tooth or doing a full smile makeover — all in one office.
And of course, we’re a no-judgment office. If you’re not happy with how any of your teeth look, we’ll talk through your options honestly, kindly, and without pressure.
Every tooth matters — and if it matters to you, we’re here to help.
