How Long Does Dental Implant Surgery Take?

How Long Does Dental Implant Surgery Take?
By Dr. Eastwood – Summerbrook Dental & Implants, Fort Worth, TX

Patients often ask me, “How long does dental implant surgery take?” The answer depends on how many implants you’re getting, your overall health, and whether you need other treatments like tooth removal or bone grafting during the same visit.

For a single dental implant, the surgery usually takes about one hour from start to finish. This includes preparing the site, placing the implant post into the jawbone, and making sure it’s secure. If we’re placing multiple implants, it can take two to three hours.

If you need All-on-4 or full-mouth implants, the surgery can take four to six hours, because we’re placing several implants and attaching a full set of teeth in one procedure.

Sometimes, extra steps—such as removing a damaged tooth, performing a sinus lift, or adding bone—can add more time to your appointment. These steps are important for making sure your implants have the strongest possible foundation.

At Summerbrook Dental & Implants, I use advanced technology like 3D imaging to plan the procedure in detail before we start. This makes surgery more precise and often faster. We also offer different comfort options, including local anesthesia, oral sedation, and IV sedation. For patients who need to be fully asleep, we bring in an MD anesthesiologist for safety.

The good news is that most patients are surprised at how comfortable and smooth the process feels. Recovery time after surgery is usually short, and most people can return to normal activities within a day or two.

We are a no-judgment office, so whether you’ve been missing teeth for years or just lost one, we’ll work with you to create a safe, effective plan.
