How Long Does a Dental Implant Take?

One of the most common questions I hear is, “How long does a dental implant take?” The answer depends on your mouth’s health, whether you need extra procedures, and the type of implant treatment you choose.

If you are healthy and have enough bone, a dental implant can often be placed in one visit. In some cases, we can even place a temporary tooth on the implant the same day. This is called immediate loading, and it allows you to leave with a smile right away.

However, most dental implant cases take three to six months from start to finish. That’s because the implant post needs time to heal and fuse to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This is what makes implants so strong and long-lasting.

If you need a bone graft to build up your jaw before the implant is placed, that step may add three to six months to the timeline. Some people also need time for gum healing after a tooth is removed before we can place the implant.

At Summerbrook Dental & Implants, I use advanced 3D imaging to plan your treatment and give you a realistic idea of your timeline. We create a custom plan to fit your needs, whether you’re looking for the fastest option possible or the most thorough approach for long-term success.

We are a no-judgment office, so it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been missing teeth—we will work with you to rebuild your smile in the safest and best way for you.
