How Long Do You Go Without Teeth When Getting Implants?
By Dr. Eastwood – Summerbrook Dental & Implants, Fort Worth, TX

Many patients worry about how long they might be without teeth when getting dental implants. The answer depends on your treatment plan, your oral health, and whether we can place temporary teeth during healing.

In many cases, you do not have to go without teeth at all. For certain patients, we can place immediate temporary teeth the same day the implants are placed. This is often done for All-on-4 or other full-mouth implant procedures. These temporary teeth look and feel like natural teeth, and you can smile and talk with confidence while your implants heal.

If we are replacing a single tooth, we may be able to place a temporary crown right away. However, sometimes we recommend waiting for the implant to fully heal before attaching the final tooth. This healing process, called osseointegration, usually takes three to six months.

If an implant is placed in an area that needs extra healing or bone grafting, there may be a short time without a tooth. In those cases, we can often make a temporary removable tooth so you’re never completely without teeth.

At Summerbrook Dental & Implants, I understand how important it is to feel confident during treatment. That’s why we create personalized plans to keep you comfortable and smiling throughout the process. We use advanced imaging to decide if same-day temporary teeth are right for you and to make sure your final result is strong and long-lasting.

We are a no-judgment office, so whether you lost a tooth yesterday or years ago, we will work with you to find the best and fastest solution for your smile.
