Does Medicare Pay for Dental Implants?

By Dr. Eastwood – Summerbrook Dental & Implants, Fort Worth, TX

Many patients ask me, “Does Medicare pay for dental implants?” The simple answer is no—traditional Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not cover dental implants. While implants are one of the best ways to replace missing teeth, Medicare considers them an elective procedure rather than a medical necessity.

Medicare will sometimes cover dental treatment if it is tied directly to a medical condition or hospital procedure. For example, if you need teeth removed before certain surgeries or if you suffer a jaw injury that requires reconstruction, Medicare may help with part of the related treatment. However, for most patients, dental implants are not included.

That doesn’t mean you don’t have options. Many seniors use a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, which is offered through private insurance companies. These plans sometimes include dental benefits that may help with the cost of implants, exams, or crowns. Coverage varies widely, so it’s important to check the details of your plan. Some may cover part of the implant process, while others may only help with dentures or partials.

At Summerbrook Dental & Implants, my team works with patients to review their insurance, explain what is and isn’t covered, and maximize any available benefits. For expenses not covered by Medicare or other insurance, we also provide flexible financing options so you can spread out payments and make implants more affordable.

Even if insurance does not fully cover them, implants are often the best long-term investment. Unlike dentures, implants preserve your jawbone, improve chewing strength, and look and feel like natural teeth. With proper care, they can last for decades.

I also want you to know my office is a no judgment zone. Many patients put off treatment because of cost or confusion about insurance. My role is not to lecture—it’s to guide you toward the best solution for your health, comfort, and confidence. So, does Medicare pay for dental implants?
