Does Medicare Cover Dental Implants?

Does Medicare Cover Dental Implants?
By Dr. Eastwood – Summerbrook Dental & Implants, Fort Worth, TX

Many patients ask me, “Does Medicare cover dental implants?” The short answer is—Original Medicare does not cover dental implants. Medicare Parts A and B focus on medical care and hospital services, not routine dental work or most tooth replacement treatments. That means the cost of dental implants, including surgery, materials, and restoration, is generally not included.

However, there are some exceptions. In rare cases, if implants are needed as part of a medical procedure—for example, after an accident or surgery—some medical coverage could apply. But for most people, implants are considered routine dental care, and Original Medicare will not help pay for them.

That said, some people have Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) that may offer limited dental benefits. These plans are run by private insurance companies approved by Medicare, and some of them include partial coverage for implants or related services. The coverage varies widely, so it’s important to check your plan’s details or have our office review them for you.

At Summerbrook Dental & Implants, my team works with patients who have Medicare Advantage to see if any part of their implant treatment can be covered. Even if your plan does not cover implants, we offer third-party financing so you can pay for your treatment in affordable monthly payments.

We are a no-judgment office, and we believe everyone deserves a healthy, confident smile. Whether you have Medicare, a Medicare Advantage plan, or no insurance at all, we will help you find a solution that works for you.
